Luis Alberto Perez Gonzalez:Spurs Kean On Italian Striker But He’s Not The Answer

Former Australian gaffer, Ange Postecoglou, continues to have a tough time of things at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and there are plenty of questions on the fans of lips right now, and that does of course include our current state of play with a number of injuries hitting. There is also the simple fact that, whatever way you look at it, we have failed to replace England international Harry Kane and it is very much to our detriment.

With a number of players signed in recent windows, whilst we have our moments in games, consistency remains a major problem and although 27 year old Dominic Solanke has settled in well following his arrival, Son Heung-Min continues to be a shadow of his former self – both in terms of creation, but also in terms of finishing and we saw it again in the recent FA Cup clash with Aston Villa.

With it being little over a week since the January transfer window came to a close, although Postecoglou was busy with the arrivals of Yang Min-Hyeok, Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, the three first teamers are now really plugging gaps rather than being competition and there continues to be a 15 goal a season striker hole at the top of the pitch.

Reports suggest we are already looking to fill that gap ahead of the summer, but with Moise Kean being the name on the speculation rumour mill, it is unlikely that the 24 year old will really excite the Spurs faithful.

The former Juventus youth Academy graduate showed a lot of good early promise in his career, but he had an absolutely torrid time of things at Goodison Park and there cannot be many fans who remember any highlights from his time at Everton. A very good loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain followed, and he roughly continued that form in loan spells with former club Juventus, but he again completely flopped upon his permanent return to them and they moved him on quickly to Fiorentina 12 months later.

Again, he has thrived at his new club with 15 goals in 22 Serie A appearances, but there is a developing pattern to his impressive seasons – and having previously seriously struggled at the Premier League level – this surely makes any interest in his services an absolutely massive risk, as rightly or wrongly, it appears his form falls off a cliff when the permanent contract is in place and it never seems to be his fault when he, and those around him, speak.

I struggle to believe this link is true, and at least from where I sit he in no way seems to be the kind of player that Postecoglou would rate, but it is being claimed that club officials flew out to Italy last week to watch him in person and then open up discussions about a move over the summer.

The claims go on to suggest that he has a £43.3 million release fee built into his La Viola contract and whilst that is reported as being ‘affordable and attractive’ to Premier League level clubs, I would call it a major red flag given his record.
